It IS.

Another thing to add to the mystery.  Image files are displayed with 
their thumbnail, like they are supposed to.
But no icons... still wondering...
the only thing that MIGHT  have something to do with this, is the volume 
capplet icon doesn't show  up either.  But I think that that is another 
issue.
