I think for nautilus it might actually be better to get rid of bookmarks
and instead use favorites, using vfolders. You could have a favorites
folder that contains links to important files locations, programs etc. I
like tigerts idea of adding a favorites icon to the toolbar similar to
osX finder. This would help to make the distinction that nautilus is a
file manager not a web browser, which at least seems to be the consensus
of the developers.
Speaking of this, I think post 2.0 we should consider perhaps doing some
ui changes to make nautilus appear less like a web browser. I don't have
any controlled usability studies on this but everyone i ever showed
nautilus to automatically assumes that it is usable as a web browser
because the ui resembles explorer/IE.
