[Nautilus-list] Bugs and Features

This might be an unappropriate place for this message. I beg your pardon if
this is the case.

A few remarks and requests from the point of view of USABILITY.

1. Please, if only possible, add these options to the preferences dialog:
       - Let Nautilus take care of mounting filesystems [yes/no]
       - Display mounted volumes' icons on the Desktop [yes/no]
       - Display (this mountpoint entry in) the devices menu [yes/no]
       - Eject disk when unmounting [yes/no]
       - Open Nautilus view of the mounted media if the disk was mounted by
external program. [yes/no]
       - Automatically mount when entering mountpoint(s). [yes/no]
It would be best to set these options on a per-mountpoint basis, if
possible.

The reason is that, since I happen to use autofs, apt-rpm/apt-cdrom and
other software that mounts and unmounts devices on its own, the CD-ROMs'
trays open and close LIKE MAD. Autoject happens and nautilus shows up when
there is no need of it, seemingly at random. This is highly frustrating and
dangerous for the trays! I've already hit it with my knee when it suddenly
opened becouse of automatic freeing of the unused media. I am stuck here,
becouse I don't know how to disable the mounting code in the current
versions of Nautilus.

2. Please, consider enabling Nautilus to show 2 panes inside its window for
quick and easy moving files around without cluttering the desktop with
multiple windows. The ideal result IMHO would be horizontal or vertical
splitting in two panes (like in excellent Win32 filemanager PowerDesk). This
would MUCH improve the comfort and reduce the time needed for opening
2 windows to half opening of just one window would suffice). This is
equivalent to an immediate increase of speed.

3. This must be a simple bug: When I try to write something in the "Notes"
tab and then change to another directory the text VANISHES tracelessly (Only
digits and English letters remain). In other words "Notes" seem to be
unaware of locales.

(I currently have Nautilus 1.0.4, being temporarily unable to download
1.0.5. The locale is ru_RU.CP1251)

P.S. BIG thanks for your work.
P.P.S. I know next to nothing about coding, so I can't create patches
myself.
