As far as I know, I have Alex's stuff on my FAM and I have some bizarre
stuff (like others have reported too)

FAM works, since I can poke some files and they update. I "touch" a png
file and the thumbnail gets recreated instantly. But then on another
file, nothing happens. I can edit a text file in emacs, save, an nothing
happens, unless I manually reload the desktop. As if FAM only monitored
a portion of the files?

Also the "only part of icons load quickly, then it takes a while to get
the rest on the desktop.

And the flashing of the desktop painting is back, it draws the
background color first, and then the image over it.
