[Nautilus-list] nautilus always stat64() /etc/mtab

nautilus wants to constantly monitor /etc/mtab to see if something
automount.  However this function keeps the hard drives spinning, battery
life low, and ext3 continually flushing the journals.

Stephen Tweddie (author of ext3) says to use some other function (I don't
know what it is) that does the same thing as stat64() but lets the drives
spin down when not really used.

Any thoughts?
