Hey Folks--
A lot of people seem to have difficulty getting the embedded Mozilla
view to work in Nautilus. Here's a list of things to try if you're
having difficulty. If you have any more information on this subject,
please post it to this list.
----------------------
(A) Does the Mozilla browser work on your system? If not, get this to
work first. This mailing list would not be the ideal place to ask
questions on how to get the straight Mozilla client installed on your
system.
(B) Are you trying to install Eazel's RedHat packages on your Mandrake
system? If so, give up. The C++ libraries are not binary compatible.
You need to build Nautilus from source on your Mandrake system.
(C) Are you trying to install Debian packages? If so, give up and build
from source. As far as I am aware, the existing Debian packages for
Nautilus 1.0 are broken in regards to the embedded Mozilla view. Also,
there are no Debian packages for Mozilla 0.8 as far as I am aware, so
you'll need to build both Nautius and Mozilla from source. Building
both Mozilla 0.8 and Nautilus from source on Debian is known to work.
Ok, those were the easy problems. Here's some other things you can try:
(D) If none of the above applies to to you, but you get a "View failed
to load" error when you tried Mozilla, you might want to try the
following:
1) Ensure that you don't have a "MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME" environment
variable set,
especially if is set incorrectly. Previously, you needed to set
this environment
variable to run Mozilla, but this environment variable is no longer
need.
2) Quit out of nautilus and run "nautilus-clean -x" three times; make
sure all oafd's
are killed (so there aren't any oafd's with the old environment
variable set)
3) Ensure that you don't have two installs of mozilla. This can really
confuse things.
If you do, get rid of one and rebuild Nautilus.
4) rm ~/.mozilla/{appreg,registry}
(Sometimes, the Mozilla XPCOM registry contains out-of-date
references to XPCOM
objects. This seems to happen when you have two versions of Mozilla
installed
or had a different version of mozilla installed in a different path
at some
previous point in time)
5) Run the Mozilla client normally. This will rebuild the registry
files you just
deleted. (This should be unnecessary, it's just paranoia)
6) Try Nautilus now. You may have better luck.
