Yuck, which word processors work like that? If I make a selection like
that, I'd want (and get, in any package I've used) the Bold and Italic
options to remain available, so I can still change the whole selection
to bold and/or italic as required. Most widget sets these days offer a
"3-state" toggle widget for this sort of thing-- selected, deselected,
and "mixed" for when multiple objects are selected.
