Apple holds the following patent.

I would think Windows 95's shortcut arrows are prior art (this patent was
filed in 1998).

There are a frightening number of similar patents on obvious and/or widely
used GUI concepts and features. I ran across one non-gui patent by MS on
monikers. I sent a note on that one to gnome-components-list. I don't know
if I have the stomach to keep looking.
