I never used PageMaker, but I seem to remember something similar on the
Apple Newton, too-- the edge of the screen was your clipboard.  Drag
things there and they stuck (probably even between sessions, knowing the
Newton-- I forget now), ready for dropping back into any application
whenever you needed them.
