I'd say just use devfd new /dev tree.
It has a nice hierachy (like /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
/dev/cdroms/cdrom1, etc...) which always reflects what
kernel modules are loaded.
No need to add ugly fstab hacks, the problem has been solved
at the kernel level in 2.4 (coming real soon now)
