As of the may 31 deadline, Medusa is ready to run in the background
as a search service. There isn't really a portable installation method
for daemons, so for now this should be done manually. Here are the
commands.
If you are running no daemons:
1. As root, run /gnome/bin/medusa-indexd &.
This should run in the background and index. If it breaks, please let
me know.
The indexing interval is stored in medusa-conf.h for now. Wait until
the indexing is complete before proceeding to step 2.
2. To start the searchd there are the following commands (as root):
These commands are in the medusa/scripts directory
/gnome/bin/medusa-searchd & --- run the search daemon
m-clean -- get rid of all search daemons running
m-rerun -- clean old and restart new daemons.
The search test tool is the command line tool
"msearch" Examples and docs are in
medusa/README.
Send bug reports to me. If you have time try it out.
Rebecca
