[Nautilus-list] medusa

Medusa, the nautilus search services back end is currently able to index
file attributes.

Medusa has a test tool available currently on the command line. People
interested in testing medusa should try out the instructions below.

medusa is available on gnome cvs as the module named "medusa".

To run the medusa search service, the search daemons must be started
manually as root for right now.
This can be done as follows:

1. as root run medusa-indexd. Wait for it to complete its indexing and
display the total amount indexed.
If you would like it to not display loads of messages while indexing it,
turn of the INDEX_DEBUG flag in
medusa-conf. IF you leave the indexer running it will every 6 hours or
so. You can change this number by
changing the value of MEDUSA_FILESYSTEM_INDEXING_INTERVAL in
medusa-conf.h.

2. as root run medusa-searchd in the background. If you do not want
the search daemon to display messages, turn off SEARCH_DAEMON_DEBUG in
medusa-conf.h

The search test tool is entitled 'msearch'. Syntax examples for using
the tool on the command line are in the medusa README.

There is also a test program, which is tests/medusa-test-run.
