The solution is to open up the Makefile - search for -Wpointer-arith and
delete all/any occurances of it.
Or:
search for -Werror and delete all occurances of it.
You may have to do this for all/most of the directories I think - Sorry
there is no 'easy' way that I know (save downgrading glibc)
