trouble starting memprof

I've got memprof memprof-0.5.1 installed from RPM.
Whenever I try to run memprof on an application, either by
"memprof appname" from the console or from memprof's run dialog,
a memprof window appears but the target app never starts.
No error message appears.
Has anyone else experienced this?
