In fact that's EXACTLY the plan. No GNOME dependency, stuff
extracted from glibc and merged with the CLDR data into a
separate package, and pushing it into Python and free Java
implementations. That's all being discussed in detail on the
list, just look at the archives.
The good news is that Bruno Haible has been working on a separate
locale library for gettext, and now we have merged efforts. So,
we think we are on the right track, and we appreciate any help
:-).
