Maybe, these assertions and normal warnings have been greatly fixed by
Ross' last CVS commit where the code got more robust against such stuff
now or?!?!

Ok, will look at the bug report and this case a bit now (trying to get
myself away from learning chemics for my oral exams here hehehe....)
