on_key_press + enter + space bar + arrow keys = problem

hi @ all

i have a problem, and i hope, here is the right place, for the question.
i use "on_key_press(GdkEvent *key)" method to get the values of key 
pressed, but for "Enter", "Space Bar" and  all arrow keys, no event key_press 
is generated. i googled the web, but found no solution or example.
for any ideas,docs links, example code, etc. thank you very much.
