stop rendering of certain widget

Hello list,

is it possible to turn of the refresh of one widget? I'm doing an
operation on an image and it looks rather weird when the scrolledwindow
updates during that operation (the image is rescaled and the
scrolledwindow's adjustments are reset accordingly)
