Text on canvasmm

Hello,

I can't seem to get text to show up on my Canvas application; I've had 
to resort to using Canvas::Widget containing a Gtk::Label.  Are there 
any known bugs related to text on a canvas, or what am I missing?  I 
create my text just like any other Canvas item, it just won't display.
