Re: gtkmm capabilities

I did in no way mean to imply that gtkmm would lack functionality that Qt has (although Qt is much more than just GUI, for xml handling one could use libxml++ but for example I don't know of any complete C++ database abstraction layers). What I meant was that with Qt, one has one central vendor to contact, with a lot of sample code and documentation, while with gtkmm it is necessary (in my opinion) to look at gtk source code, look at other projects that use gtkmm so see how some things are done, read the mailing list(s), keep up to date with the latest releases of gtkmm and related libraries, etc... all of which takes up time. In commercial settings, that time will cost much more than 3000$ per developer. Also, think about the learning curve: there are a lot of books on qt, but I don't know of any about gtkmm (except for the manual). 3000$, that's 4 developer days: IMO in a commercial setting, Qt's documentation alone will save one 4 days.

I like gtkmm better than I like Qt so don't get me wrong here, but if 3000$ is too much (compared to the expected revenue of your product and the time you'll have to spend writing things yourself) than you better think over your business plan again.

Does this mean that GTK+ is a long way behind Qt in terms of functionality?

Not that I know any better, but I've never heard that this was the case, out
of interest, what sort of widgets etc does Qt have that are missing in GTK+
etc?
