[gtkmm] Paned question

I have some DrawingArea widgets inside a pair of Paned widgets.  I'd
like to freeze the expose events on the DrawingArea widgets whenever the
panes are moving.  I connected to all the Paned signals, and none seem
to be firing.

What gives?  And the docs for the Paned signals are nonexistant, so how
do I do this correctly?
