I'm currently working on such a thing, a brand new GObject-based
terminal emulator with full ECMA-48, UCS-4 and ISO-2022 support. The
beginnings are here (it's only a week old, so most is waiting to be
written). Most of the time so far has been spent on design; ECMA-35
and ECMA-43 infrastructure is mostly there, and will be complete once
I've added the code table tree, table parser and input stack.

(don't expect much--this is early days!)

Roger
