[gtkmm] exit or suspend a thread

Hello.

What's  the  best  way  to  suspend  and to exit from a thread? I'm just
returning from the thread's function, is that OK? What about suspension?
I created  a  signal and made the thread sleep waiting for it, are there
better ways?...
