I just have one small problem left though - the method that you gave me only 
works if the listener is added to the top-level window. I had intended to 
add the Keyboard listener to a DrawingArea within the main window.

If this is impossible, it doesn't really matter; however, I feel that the 
code would be neater if it were to be handled within the DrawingArea widget.
