[gtkmm] [OT] libtool strips '.so' extension

I'm sorry about sending an off-topic message to the list, but I would
like to ask Murray how did he fix the "problem with installed .so
filenames", because I'm having the same problem here with
libtool 1.5.0a
automake 1.7.6
autoconf 2.57
