I'm using the libtool installed by vicious-build-scripts:

[root localhost gtkmm2]# which libtool
/gnome/gnome-2-0/INSTALL/bin/libtool
[root localhost gtkmm2]# libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.4.2 (1.922.2.53 2001/09/11 03:18:52)

If that needs to be updated then you should probably talk to the GNOME
people about it, because I would expect this to apply to all GNOME
tarballs.
