Pango : Creating Empty Makefile error ;

Hi,
    I want to compile pango 1.8.1 which is used by gtk.

    So,
         I have done a configure. But, when i do make after configure
i get an error saying
         no targets are present in make.

         I checked the make file. it was empty.

   I get an sed message at the last ; saying unterminated 's' command.
    i dont know whether this is a warning or error.

  how to solve this problem.
