problems detecting glib

["Patel, Nilesh M" <Nilesh M Patel questdiagnostics com>]

I cannot or do not know how to make my glib detected to the lastest verison I have.
I tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PKG_CONFIG_PATH to glib-2.0.pc

how should I set the LIBRARY_PATH or PKG_CONFIG_PATH so that it recognises glib-2.4.6 (which is the latest glib pkg I have)
any input or suggestion is  highly appreciated
