GTK compilation, can't find libs

Hi,

I got my linux installtion of gtk working. I am now trying to install it on a Solaris machine and am having another problem. It cannot seem to find my TIFF, jpeg, or png libraries. I've got /usr/local/lib in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH. I've checked that directory and it has

libjpeg.so libjpeg.so.62 libjpeg.so.62.0.0 
libpng.a "".so "".so.2 and "".so.2.1.0.5
libtiff.a and libtiff.so

Is there a chance that I don't have the correct versions of these? Do I need .h files also or are the libs sufficient?
