gtk2.4 isntallation under slackware

Hi,
 The computer I am curretnly working on has both
gtk1.2 and gtk1.2.4 installed. (I checked using
package manager) I would like to install gtk+2.4. I
was wondering if I should uninstall the previous
versions first or just overwrite them with the new
one. Thanks
