I am trying to install GTK+2.2.1 on a Redhat 9.0 system. I have
sucessfully installed Glib, and Pango. Each configured and installed with
no errors or warnings. However when I try to ./configure GTK+2.2.1 I get
an error stating the following:

checking Pango flags... -I/usr/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/X11R6/include
-I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/local/include/pango-1.0
-I/usr/local/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/local/lib/glib-2.0/include -Wl,--export-dynamic -L/usr/local/lib -lpangoxft-1.0 -lpangox-1.0 -lpango-1.0
-lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -ldl -lglib-2.0
configure: error:
*** Can't link to Pango. Pango is required to build

Not sure why I am getting this error. I tried googling it but no luck.
One suggestion - try to remove old "*.pc" files from "/usr/lib/pkgconfig" dir. They still live there even you've removed devel packages from distro.
