The last few versions had issues with the frame buffer. Version 2.2.2
crashed at run-time (region code) and version 2.2.3 failed to build
due to a missing stub using the shadow fb stuff. However, I was able
to get both versions working on a 386 with some patches. You can find
the patches needed on bugzilla.gnome.org

The patch for 2.2.2 to not crash is:

        http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115284

The patch for 2.2.3 (and probably 2.2.4 and 2.2.5) using shadowfb is:

        http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120847

I did not run into any other problems compiling it though. However, I
would note that I found building a small X server (TinyX) to give much
better performance - thus I no longer use the frame buffer port.
