how to find out which fortname (as in xlsfonts) does "Sans 7" correspond?

In the file /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc we put fornmaes in the format "Sans 7". 

However fonts in X are generally known by names like 
-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--8-80-75-75-c-50-iso10646-1

How to find out which font name of the former format matches which 
fontname of the latter format?
