ATK is used in two separate ways.

It is used to set accessibility information for a widget, see for example ghex.

It is also used by the AT-SPI bridge to obtain accessibility information, about 
a running application, which is used by assistive technologies. See 
at-spi/atk-bridge/bridge.c.
