did you do a './configure' before trying to 'make' ?
(I had no problem compiling gtk+-2.0.8 for mandrake with './configure' followed
by 'make')

Anyway, there's no need for you to compile gtk+-2.0.8 for mandrake 9.0
Mandrake has done this for you.  They publish daily rpm updates on the Mandrake
cooker mirrors. Find the RPM packages at

you can directly download from these links:
