gtk_table/entry

Hi,
can anyone help me size entryboxes in a GtkTable?  I've tried using
gtk_table_attach_defaults() and gtk_table_attach() with different combos
of homogenous, fill, padding etc....  When I tested  using buttons I was
able to size & position them with the coordinates easily.  I would like to
make a phone # input with 3 entryboxes ( area code, prefix, number ) that
hops along as the user inputs the numbers, like you've seen in other
apps..
