gtk2.0 gtktreeview question

I'm using gtkreeview and gtktreemodel to display XML data (DOM fits nice
with gtreemodel)

how do i get the lines, connecting the tree items, instead of the
arrows? sometims the old style from gtk1.2 is more clear (especially for
larger trees) then the new one with arrows. 

Is this a theme item?

for clarification a little bit of ascii art:

i want this layout

instead of the arrows on the parent nodes.
