using widgets

Hello.
(BI am having a couple of doubts with widgets.
(BI have this entry widget where i am supposed to get commands. When i call for the contents of the entry widget, do i get a pointer to the text, or a copy? I want to know if i could tokenize it, as to parse the commands.

(Bthen, one command should be able to change the content of two widgets. I know the name of the widgets, so how can i get a pointer back to them? (the widgets are declared in another file).
(BI am using anjuta, and hence, the interface i am building with glade.
