how make widget in hbox be a FIXED size?

I need to use the "fill" and "expand" boolean
parameters of gtk_box_pack_start but suppose
I want ONE of the widgets in the hbox to
be a certain FIXED size????  How can I do that??

(I want the label to take up rest of space but
the GtkEntry widget to ALWAYS be 7 characters long.)
