GTK Applications that fail to refresh / pthread/gthread under Linux

Has anyone had problems (or know of a solution) with multi-threaded GTK 
applications failing to refresh after a random period of time.  I have 
written a particular application that performs refresh actions on 
separate threads and works fine for hours sometimes, and others - 
minutes.  It seems to be directly related to system speed because slower 
systems manifest the problems sooner than faster machines.  Any help 
would be greatly appreciated.
