double IEEE precission with spin buttons

Hello everyone!
I'm a newbie to gtk+ programming (started only yesterday ;) ), but after few hours of trying to invent hot water I gave up and figured I should ask:
How do I get double precission with spin buttons? I have to enter Julian dates, which are something like "2448500.165143", so I have to fit them to long float at least. Please help! :)
