Keep some smaller number of tabs displayed. The leftmost is either the
global "first" tab, or a movement tab. The rightmost is either the
global "last" or a movement tab.
Using CAPS to indicate active, i.e. tab contents displayed, my ASCII UI
design starts as:
_____________________________________________
FIRST | second | third | fourth | ==> |
_____________________________________________
Then, if the operator clicks on, e.g., "third", it becomes:
_____________________________________________
first | second | THIRD | fourth | ==> |
_____________________________________________
If the operator then clicks "==>", it becomes:
_____________________________________________
<== | THIRD | fourth | fifth | ==> |
_____________________________________________
Another click on "==>" changes it to:
_____________________________________________
<== | FOURTH | fifth | sixth | ==> |
_____________________________________________
Etc.
Of course, this is my UI preference, and the actual way to do this is
left as an exercise...
(There were some postings on hidden notebook pages not too long ago, but
I didn't pay much attention)
