tooltips and gtktext

I'd like to implement this: when the user moves the mouse over certain
text in a gtktext window, an amplification or explanation "bubble"
appears in the manner of tooltips (or similar).

Any suggestions on whether this could be done using gtktext, or would
I have to write a custom widget to support it?
