Just say

export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous anoncvs gnome org:/cvs/gnome
cvs co pixbuf-engine

or

cvs co -r PIXBUF_ENGINE_GTK_1_2 pixbuf-engine

if you want the gtk 1.2 version.
