redhat5.1 with gtk1.0.x can't run a gtk+ program with Chinese support.

I made a program written by gtk1.0.x with redhat5.1.It can run correctly with English input.However,if I input a Chinese charactor ,a warning will appear.

If the first charactor is Chinese charactor,the program will be canceled.

Please tell why?
