The testgtk.c comes to you with every gtk+ distribution. It is located
in gtk/ subdirectory of the distributin. I would strongly recommend it
not only for testing the gtk features, but as a good source for
examples how to use gtk.

PS: my system is Solaris too, but I had no Solaris-specific troubles
with Gtk+.
