The GTK+ package has an example program named testdnd.c.

If you are programming in Lisp, take a look at my bigloo-lib package
<http://bigloo-lib.sourceforge.net>, which has gtk bindings for Scheme
programming language, and includes the working testdnd example
rewritten in Bigloo Scheme.
