The point is that you can drag an icon directly from the application - a
word processor or whatever - straight to a filer window which is already
open. The copy action as far as i know can only copy (not save) files
from one filer window (not just any application) to another.
It may be that the copy action is implemented in such a way (I do not
program GTK - I have no real knowledge of this) that such an action would
be possible.
Incidentally, the concept could be extended to allow dragging from a save
window into another applications window so the file could be
embedded/loaded. for example, in an art package, select File->Save As,
and drag the icon into your wordprocessor, which would display the image
at the place in the document that the mouse button was released.
