finding gnome-config

Hi, sorry if this is a little off-topic for this list,
but I'm trying to compile gnome--, and the configure
script can't find gnome-config. Actually, I can't
find it either, although I thought I had it in
/usr/bin
once.

I'm currently running gnome 1.2 from helixcode.com,
which I installed as a debian package. Does anyone
know how I can get a copy of gnome-config without
ending up in a tangle of dependencies or actually
having to rebuild gnome or something? It's just a
shell script that spits out the location of various
header/lib directories, right?

Thanks,
Jim
