GtkVScale: how do you change orientation?

Sorry if this has been asked before: I have been searching through
all manuals (and indeed in the code too) with no luck. How do you
change the orientation of a VScale widget? I would like to have
a VScale whose lower value is at the bottom while the upper is
at the top - but all I get is a reverse orientation. I tried
fudging with the Adjustment widget, but with no luck. There's
a hint in the doc that this should be possible, but no indication
on how to do it...
